Tips for the Month:

  • Close entrances to one bee space against wasp attacks and ensure no gaps or holes are present in your hives.

  •  Continue to check for disease of both brood and bees. Consult someone more experienced if you are concerned.

  •  Remove honey for extraction but ensure you leave sufficient stores as current dry conditions are reducing the amount of nectar produced by flowering plants.

  •  Feed your bees sugar syrup if you have taken off most of their stores.

  •  You may now reduce inspections, especially while treating for varroa, don’t open the hive unnecessarily.

  •  Don't treat for varroa while supers are in place.

  •  Ensure you have registered your apiary on BeeBase so that if there is disease located in our area you can be contacted by the bee inspectors to stop it from spreading.
