Tips for the Month:

  • Review equipment and clean and repair making a note of what to order at Tradex in March or the Convention in April where some bargains can be picked up.

  • Heft hives every few weeks and feed with fondant if necessary - keep a check on the rate at which fondant is consumed so bees don't starve if they have consumed all the fondant and you forget to replenish it.

  • Do some reading or study about bees to improve your beekeeping.

  • Check hives if there have been high winds to ensure roofs have not blown off - weigh down with a brick, or strap hive parts together.

  • Check for woodpecker damage and protect hives with chicken wire or strips of plastic.

  • In the unlikely event of snow, clear entrances.
